Job Description

Overview The Gearbox Entertainment Company is home to a world-class team that entertains the world with award-winning and genre-defining video games. Our games are entrenched with rich universes that are expanded upon via transmedia storytelling, live experiences, and consumer products. Gearbox Entertainment has become widely known for developing successful game franchises such as Borderlands, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, and Brothers in Arms, as well for continued development of acquired properties including Duke Nukem, Risk of Rain, and Homeworld. The company was founded as Gearbox Software in 1999 by a team of industry veterans and is headquartered in Frisco, Texas. Gearbox Entertainment is proud to be part of 2K, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO). We’re looking for a Senior Sound Designer who’s not only passionate about sound but also embodies the qualities that define our team culture: humble, smart, and ambitious. You’ll bring fresh ideas and a creative spirit, but also the humility to listen, learn, and collaborate closely with others. We value people who are curious and thoughtful in their craft—always seeking smarter ways to solve problems and elevate the player experience. At the same time, we want someone who’s ambitious about their impact, eager to push boundaries, and ready to help shape the sound of our games in meaningful ways. Here, every designer takes true ownership of their work. Your perspective and creativity won’t just be heard—they’ll help guide how we bring our worlds to life. We believe the best results come from teams where each person is deeply invested, both in the project and in each other’s success. Responsibilities Design, mix, and edit original high-quality sound effects in a DAW for key game features, including complex systems like weapons and character audio. Perform Foley and field recording to support sound design needs. Implement audio assets into Wwise and Unreal Engine 5, ensuring they fit cohesively within the overall game mix. Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams (design, FX, programming, animation) to meet audio needs and support system development. Manage tasks and track bugs using JIRA to support efficient audio production. Deliver high-quality audio assets on time, meeting project standards and creative goals. Contribute to team initiatives like sound jams and support troubleshooting of in-game audio issues. Qualifications 7+ years of experience in sound design, including full project lifecycle contribution as a Senior Sound Designer or equivalent. Proficient in mixing, editing, Foley, field recording, and modern audio design techniques for games. Strong understanding of audio middleware and current game industry trends. Excellent communication skills with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback effectively. Skilled in creating clear documentation, such as style guides and system specifications. Gearbox Entertainment believes that all team members should be able to enjoy a work environment free from all forms of discrimination and harassment. We are committed to reflecting the diversity of the world we strive to entertain. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we provide fair and equal treatment to all team members and applicants. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability, genetic information, pregnancy or maternity, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable national, federal, state or local law. Please note that 2K Games and its studios never uses instant messaging apps or personal email accounts to contact prospective employees or conduct interviews and when emailing, only use 2K.com accounts.
