Seeking enthusiastic Musical Theater Teaching Artists to join our loving and magical team. This is a part time position teaching for our after school program, perfect for theater performers or gig workers looking for an artistic job that suits their schedule and interests. The successful candidate will be responsible for engaging with the students, leading class lessons and activities (we provide curriculum), maintaining a successful classroom environment, and leading your students at our end of the semester presentation. The ideal candidate will be a positive role model, have excellent communication skills, and be able to think quickly on their feet. We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with children and helping them to develop life skills. This person will have a degree in Theater, or have 4+ years in theater, and have experience teaching/leading groups of students. As an inclusive program, all teachers must be comfortable potentially working with students who have various disabilities and learning differences.

Teachers must be able to sing and act, and convey those skills to our students (ages 5-10). We will provide training and curriculum for you to follow, but you must be ready to jump in and convey the material with confidence and love!

Responsibilities:

  • Lead classes of ~8-12 students
  • Convey curriculum to them
  • Adapt to their needs and personalities
  • Maintain a positive attitude and promote team spirit.
  • Assist backstage/lead students in "Recital” at the end of semester.

Experience:

  • Working with children: 1 year (Required)
  • Theater/musical theater: 4 years (Required)

Job Type: Contract, Part-time (After school hours)

Hours: ~3-10 per week (~3-6pm each day)

Schedule: Monday-Thursday (varies by teacher availability)

For some kiddos, this may look like just 1 or 2 solo lines, if that's where they're at this year! For some, it may be a bigger leading part. Sometimes we may even rehearse a piece in class that isn't ready to be performed on show day, but it was still fun and educational to work on as a group! As a parent in the program, we ask that you to support this mission by encouraging your child to find the magic in the process of theater. Sometimes they may be the star soloist. Sometimes they may be in the back line, supporting another child's moment to shine. Encourage them to find the value in all of these moments.

What is inclusivity? An inclusive classroom is an educational space where students with and without learning differences learn together. What does this mean for this class? In our classes, we sometimes have students with various learning challenges, and our students may learn in different ways, or at different rates from each other. We adjust our scripts to include all students and give everyone a moment to shine that suits their unique ability at this time. Why this is so awesome! In a musical theater class, we have the flexibility to teach speaking, singing, or dancing material to each child based on their unique ability, personality, and level of experience. In our classes, groups that are often separated from each other get to work together and enrich each other's learning experience.At The Spotlight Project, we strive to create an environment where every child feels welcomed and uplifted. Students learn the basic techniques of acting, singing, and dancing, while building confidence on and off the stage.
